2. Project location: Hoai Nhon District, Binh Dinh Province

3. Project objectives:

The agricultural land is more than 1,000ha but only 40% of which, mainly under one-crop or two-crop cultivation, is ensured to be irrigated by the existing irrigation schemes. The shortage of irrigation has an adverse effect on agricultural production, living and sanitary environmental conditions in the dry season. Thus, the construction of Can Hau Reservoir is reflected as a long strong aspiration of the local residents.

The reservoir is to reserve irrigation water for 500ha under cultivation at the communes of Hoai Son and Hoai Chau Bac; supply water for 50ha under shrimp aquaculture at Tam Quan Bac commune and provide additional domestic water for about 20,000 residents who benefit from the project and control flooding and inundation.

4. Project scale:

Earthen dam: In the form of homogenous dam in combination with embankments. The dam top stretches for 3,500m, with the maximum height of 27,4m and capacity of 3.48 million m³.

Spillway: Free spillway in lengthwise, with flow rate of 256.35m³/s.

Water intake: Circular, with pressure, and on-off valve, 600m in diameter.

Canal system: Cross-sectionally in rectangular and trapezium, constructed of concrete and reinforced concrete with a total length of 30km.
