1. Project title: Sub-project on Irrigation for La Tinh River Basin

2. Project location: Phu My and Phu Cat Districts, Binh Dinh Province

3. Project objectives:

The Sub-project comprises a completion of the system of irrigation canals and upgrade of the perimeter dike of La Tinh River catchment in order to increase the irrigated areas, adequately supply irrigation for 2 - 3 crops every year and partially supply water for aquaculture production, thus contributing to the increase of agricultural and aquacultural production in the project areas; ensuring the environmental sustainability and control of natural calamities, eventually reducing poverty and securing living conditions for the local people in accordance with the provincial strategy for rural development until 2015.

4. Project scale:

Establishing a system of reinforced irrigation canals of Hoi Son Reservoir with the construction and upgrading of 80 km of the existing major canals and level 1 and 2 canals; constructing and repairing 520 irrigation works of the system and improving the internal irrigation canals extending to paddy fields; thus ensuring the irrigation for 3,111 ha under agricultural production and 300 ha under aquaculture; the major construction works include the reinforcement of the irrigation canals of Hoi Son reservoir, Cay Gai dam and Cay Ke dam.

Upgrading 27 km of perimeter dike of La Tinh River catchment to protect 1,427 ha of agricultural land and a population of more than 30 000 of My Chanh, My Cat and Cat Minh communes and other infrastructure facilities which are at risk from being struck by floods.
