1. Project title: Thuan Phong Reservoir

2. Project location: Phu Cat District, Binh Dinh Province

3. Project objectives:

The irrigation area of Thuan Phong Reservoir is semi-mountainous, located to the south of La Tinh River and the north of Kon River. The agricultural production relies primarily on natural water bodies, the dams which are constructed of branches and twigs, and mini-pumping stations whereas the production cost is high, crop-yield uncertain and people's living very difficult. The construction of Thuan Phong Reservoir is an urgent need against the aspiration of local residents, bringing about new development for the agricultural sector in contribution to promoting the development of other relevant economic sectors.

Thuan Phong Reservoir is designed to reserve and regulate gravity irrigated water for 100ha under cultivation at the communes of Cat Lam and Cat Hiep of Phu Cat district, also to supply domestic water to the project area, and to stop flooding for reduced inundation in the lower sections of the river, preventing erosion and siltation.

It is also used to breed fish in the reservoir-bed in combination with the utilization of the other reservoir resources and protection of the watershed, environment and habitats.

4. Project scale:

- Earthen dam: in the form of combined dam with top 1 080m in length and 17.7m in height and a capacity of 9 million m³.

- Spillway: Free spillway with slanting connected gutters. The spillway is 60m in width, with flow rate of 207m³/s.

- Water intake and canal system: 25km in length.
