A scheme on bio-fuel development to 2015 and the vision to 2025

23 November 2007

On November 20, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, on behalf of the Prime Minister, approved “the scheme on bio-fuel development to 2015 and the vision to 2025”, aiming to produce bio-fuels and partly replace traditional fuels, contributing to ensure energy security and environment protection.

In the 2011 - 2015 period, the country will strongly develop bio-fuels production, expanding the distribution network of bio-fueld serving transportation and production, applying the modern fermentation technology, training human resources for the bio-fuel industry to ensure the sources of materials for the production of bio-fuels.

By 2015, the output of ethanol and biological diesel  is expected to reach 250,000 tonnes, providing 1% of the total demand of petrol and diesel over the country. According to the scheme, by 2025, Vietnam will access to advanced technologies producing bio-fuels, the output will reach 1.8 million tonnes, meeting around 5% of the total demand of the country.

In order to create favourable conditions for implementing the scheme, the Government needs to create a clear market for developing bio-fuels, speeding up the establishment of businesses of all economic sectors to invest in the field with the government’s incentive policies on banking loans, tax and etc as well as improving the awareness of the community towards using the bio-fuels.
