ADB’s representatives worked with Binh Dinh Province on the Health assistance in central coastal provinces project

In the afternoon of September 19, at the office of Binh Dinh Province People’s Committee, Vice- chairman Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh received and had a meeting with Mr Ross Mcleod, economic and financial expert from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Also joining the meeting are representatives of the Departments of Health, Planning and Investment, Finance.
At the meeting, the ADB’s representatives dicussed with the province on its financial affairs, requests as well as any matters relating to the Health assistance in central coastal provinces project being prepared by the Ministry of Health in association with the sponsor to submit to the Central Government for approval.
It is expected the project will cost USD80 million, of which the ADB will provide 80% in loans, while the remaining 20% will be allocated from Vietnam’s corresponding capital. The project will be implemented within five years (2008-2013) in eight provinces of Central Vietnam with its capital apportioned according to criteria of population density and poor household rate. The project includes four component parts: investing in material facilities; purchasing equipment; developing human resources; and improving the Poor’s access to health care services . The province also proposed to upgrade, constructing some works of medical examination and treatment at the Provincial General hospital, the Traditional Medicine hospital and Phu My’s General hospital and the purchasing of medical equipments for General hospitals and Specialized ones at provincial districts, regions.
The leaders of the province shared experiences in implementing ODA’s projects in Binh Dinh Province in the recent years with the ADB’s experts . At the same time, they commited to fully realize all contents of the project’s document, providing full corresponding capital source once the project is approved.
